Rick Wallenda's Biography

Born: 1955, U.S.A.

Began performing high wire walking with the family at age 13 in 1968.

President, Wallenda Enterprises

The Flying Wallendas, formed in the early 1920’s by acrobat Karl Wallenda, the son of a European circus family, made the Wallenda name internationally famous for the troupe’s amazing seven- and eight-person pyramid wire-walks, most notably without the security of safety nets or wires.

It was during a performance in Akron, Ohio when the Wallenda group gained their now famous nickname. The entire Wallenda troupe fell off the wire and miraculously was unhurt. The next day a reporter who witnessed the accident was quoted in the newspaper: “The Wallendas fell so gracefully that it seemed as if they were flying” – thus coining the name “The Flying Wallendas“.

  • On July 4, 2008, Rick Wallenda, the grandson of Karl, performed a record-breaking, death-defying skywalk of 2,000 feet (610m) at Kings Island in Ohio, breaking his grandfather’s record walk. (www.wallendaenterprises.com/)
  • On June 15, 2012, Rick’s cousin, Nik Wallenda, became the first person in history to walk directly over the Niagara Falls on a high wire, crossing from the United States to Canada.

The Skywalk tradition continues as Rick seeks the next opportunity to stretch “The Great Wallendas” beyond the limits with one of several world records in mind for the future. The Wallewnda troupe continue to perform for corporate and fundraising functions.
